Chapter 13 - The Descent into Hell

My tears of happiness dried instantly, replaced by a freezing chill that seized my chest.

"What do you mean, what are we going to do? Diego, we both work! If we stop paying off your sister's endless credit card debt and move to a smaller, affordable place, we can easily manage. This is our child!"

"I cannot put my family out on the street!" he yelled, jumping to his feet, his eyes flashing with anger.

"My mother needs me! You knew exactly what our financial situation was when we got married. And now you pull this on me..."

He didn't hold me that entire night. He turned his back to me, facing the wall, and fell asleep.

The next day, the news spread through the house like a virus, but there was not a single word of congratulations.
