Chapter 34 - The Matriarch's Rage
Ryan’s testimony was the fatal blow to the defense’s entire narrative. Arthur Sterling attempted a cross-examination, trying to paint Ryan as a disgruntled, disinherited son seeking revenge against his successful parents. But Ryan parried every aggressive question with calm, undeniable logic. He explained that he had walked away from the trust fund voluntarily, long before this trial began, precisely because he refused to be complicit in their crimes.
As Ryan calmly dismantled Sterling’s arguments, the tension in the gallery finally caused the dam to break.
Eleanor Whitmore, unable to handle the public humiliation of her own son exposing her empire, suddenly stood up from her seat in the second row. Her perfectly curated aristocratic mask completely shattered, revealing a woman consumed by narcissistic rage.
"You ungrateful, pathetic traitor!" Eleanor screamed, her voice echoing violently off the high ceilings of the courtroom. She pointed a shaking finger at Ryan on the stand. "I gave you everything! I built this empire for you, and you throw it away for a secretary and that... that commoner wife of yours! You are nothing without my money!"
The entire courtroom descended into absolute chaos. Reporters were aggressively typing on their phones, the jury looked horrified, and the defense table was in a state of sheer panic.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Judge Hawthorne slammed her gavel down with furious authority. "Order! Order in my court! Bailiff, remove that woman from the gallery immediately!"

Two armed bailiffs rushed toward Eleanor, grabbing her by the arms of her expensive designer jacket. She fought them, still screaming obscenities at Ryan and Maya, her pearl necklace snapping in the struggle and scattering white beads across the polished wooden floor. As she was forcibly dragged out of the double doors, the silence that followed was deafening.
Marcus Reed didn't say a word. He didn't need to. Eleanor Whitmore had just shown the jury, the press, and the entire world exactly what kind of monster she truly was. The defense rested their case an hour later, entirely broken.
