Chapter 33 - Ryan's Defection

The atmosphere shifted from tense to utterly historic when Marcus Reed called his final witness to the stand.
"The plaintiff calls Ryan Whitmore," Marcus announced.
A collective gasp echoed through the courtroom, followed by the frantic scratching of reporters' pens in the back rows. It was unprecedented. The heir to the empire, the golden son of the Whitmore legacy, was taking the stand against his own mother and the holding company that bore his name.
Ryan walked down the center aisle, looking sharp, composed, and entirely unburdened. As he passed his mother in the gallery, he didn't even cast a glance in her direction. He took the oath, sat in the witness box, and adjusted the microphone.
"Mr. Whitmore, you served as a Vice President at Whitmore Holdings for five years, correct?" Marcus established, standing respectfully near the podium.
"I did," Ryan answered, his voice steady and calm.
"During that time, were you aware of the corporate culture regarding whistleblowers and employee grievances?"
"I was aware that the culture was entirely toxic," Ryan stated clearly, his eyes scanning the jury. "My family utilized a specific, calculated protocol to silence anyone who threatened their public image or financial bottom line. It involved aggressive surveillance, manufactured financial leverage, and the weaponization of non-disclosure agreements. Clara's experience was not an anomaly. It was the standard operating procedure engineered by my mother, Eleanor Whitmore."
Arthur Sterling stood up, his face red with desperation. "Objection! Hearsay and speculation! The witness was not present in the room when the plaintiff signed the agreement."
"He was an executive officer of the company, Your Honor, testifying to established corporate policy," Marcus countered effortlessly.
"Overruled," Judge Hawthorne snapped, clearly captivated by Ryan's testimony.

"Mr. Whitmore," Marcus continued, "why are you testifying today? You stand to lose your inheritance and your social standing by exposing this."
Ryan looked directly at Maya sitting in the gallery, a profound, unshakable love in his eyes. "Because I am a father now. And I refuse to let my son grow up in a world where the Whitmore name is synonymous with cruelty and extortion. I am here to burn the rot to the ground, so my family can finally breathe clean air."
