Suddenly, the heavy mahogany double doors of the nursery burst violently open.
The loud, explosive crash of the heavy wood hitting the plaster walls completely shattered the serene calmness of the room. The sound was like a gunshot in the quiet sanctuary, causing Victoria to jump violently in shock.
Rosa, the maid in the simple gray uniform and white apron, sprinted into the opulent room like a wild, hunted animal.
Her face was flushed a deep red, slick with nervous sweat. Her eyes were wide with absolute, unadulterated panic. Her chest heaved violently as she gasped for air.
