Chapter 31 - The Market Open

The sharp, relentless ringing of the opening bell echoed through the financial feeds displayed across the massive monitors in Victoria’s executive suite. The morning sun cast a cold, harsh light across the dark slate floors. The war with the Archon Group had transitioned from whispered threats in velvet-draped ballrooms to the unforgiving, hyper-kinetic arena of the global markets.
Victoria sat behind her obsidian desk. Her posture was rigidly upright, an unyielding pillar of corporate authority. She wore a tailored, navy-blue blazer. Her facial expression was entirely neutral, a mask of profound, chilling calm, but the subtle clenching of her jaw revealed the lethal focus humming beneath her skin.
Marcus stood near the reinforced glass door, maintaining his silent vigil.
"The Archon coalition is attempting a massive, coordinated short-sell of our primary tech holdings," Sterling’s voice crackled through the encrypted speakerphone. The lawyer was working from the trading floor, entirely subservient to Victoria’s command. "They are trying to trigger a panic sell-off to deplete our liquidity."
Victoria’s slow eye movement tracked the red numbers cascading down the central monitor. Her empire’s stock price was bleeding, intentionally wounded by the desperate syndicate.
"Let it drop," Victoria murmured, her baritone-soft voice completely devoid of panic.
"Madam," Sterling stuttered, a micro-expression of terror bleeding into his tone. "If it drops another five percent, the margin calls will be catastrophic."

"I said, let it drop," Victoria repeated quietly. The cinematic realism of her restraint was terrifying. She watched the numbers fall, waiting for the exact microscopic fraction of a second when the Archon Group overextended their credit lines. She was not panicking; she was letting the enemy step completely into the snare.
"Wait for my mark," Victoria whispered, her dark eyes locking onto the screen.
