Chapter 33 - The Desperate Plea

The financial massacre concluded minutes before the closing bell. The executive suite was bathed in the warm, fading light of dusk. The monitors displayed static, victorious green metrics.

The heavy, encrypted phone on Victoria’s desk chimed. It was a direct, unlisted line.

Victoria did not reach for it immediately. She allowed the phone to ring three times, weaponizing the silence, forcing the caller to endure the psychological torture of the pause. Finally, she picked up the receiver with slow, deliberate precision.

"Victoria," Julian Vance’s voice echoed through the earpiece. The aristocratic polish of the Archon emissary was entirely gone. His voice was ragged, cracking with genuine, pathetic despair.

"Mr. Vance," Victoria whispered softly, her jaw clenching with restrained, absolute authority.

"You have ruined us," Vance sobbed quietly. The cinematic realism of his breakdown was profoundly pathetic. "The coalition is bankrupt. The federal regulators are raiding our offices. We... we surrender. Please. Release the offshore accounts. Allow us to liquidate and fade away."

Victoria’s facial expression remained an impenetrable mask of stoicism. She looked at a small, silver-framed photograph of her son resting on her desk. She remembered the forged medical documents. She remembered the terrified maid sobbing in the nursery.

"There is no surrender, Mr. Vance," Victoria murmured, her tone perfectly flat, devoid of any mercy or hesitation. "There is only consequence."

"We will give you everything!" Vance pleaded, his chest heaving through the audio feed.

"I already have everything," Victoria replied quietly. "You targeted my bloodline. I erased yours. Do not ever contact this office again."

Victoria placed the receiver back onto the cradle with a soft, definitive click. She severed the line, leaving the broken emissary screaming into the dark, digital void.
