Chapter 35 - The Final Threat

The sprawling estate was buried under a thick layer of fresh snow. The midnight landscape was quiet, serene, and fiercely protected.
A shadow detached itself from the tree line near the southern perimeter. It was a man, dressed in tactical white winter camouflage, moving with the desperate, erratic speed of a rogue operative. He was a remnant of the Archon Group—a bankrupt, ruined investor seeking suicidal vengeance against the woman who had destroyed his life. He held a suppressed, high-caliber pistol, his eyes locked on the faint glow of the nursery window on the second floor.
He bypassed the outer laser grid, panting heavily, believing he had slipped through the invisible armor of the estate.
He took another step toward the marble facade.
Suddenly, a massive hand clamped over his mouth from behind, completely muffling his shocked gasp.
Marcus materialized from the snowy darkness. The enforcer’s facial expression was entirely blank, a mask of professional, chilling lethality. Marcus did not shout. He did not issue a warning. The cinematic realism of the violence was abrupt, silent, and flawlessly executed.
With a rapid, precise twist of his powerful arms, Marcus snapped the operative’s neck. The dull, sickening crunch was immediately swallowed by the winter wind.

Marcus gently lowered the lifeless body into the deep snow. His natural breathing remained slow and rhythmic. He checked the operative’s pockets, extracting a crushed ID card that bore the insignia of an Archon shell company.
Marcus stood up, adjusting the cuffs of his dark winter coat. He looked up at the nursery window, his breath pluming in the freezing air. The shield remained unbroken. The perimeter was secure.
