Chapter 27 - The Archon Emissary

The grand ballroom of the capital’s premier hotel was dripping in crystal chandeliers and velvet drapery. The annual Global Philanthropy Gala was the epicenter of power, where billions of dollars changed hands under the guise of charity.

Victoria entered the room. She wore a floor-length, backless black silk gown that absorbed the ambient light. Her dark hair was styled in a flawless, severe updo. As she moved through the crowd, the high-contrast lighting highlighted the sharp, cold angles of her cheekbones. She projected absolute, terrifying sovereignty. The elite guests parted for her, recognizing the new, merciless apex predator of the corporate world.

She stood near a towering ice sculpture, sipping a glass of sparkling water, when a man in a pristine white tuxedo approached her. His facial expression was entirely pleasant, but his eyes were entirely dead.

"Miss Victoria," the man murmured, bowing his head slightly. "An exquisite evening. I am Julian Vance. I represent a coalition of investors who were... deeply saddened by your mother’s sudden departure."

Victoria did not turn her body to face him fully. Her slow eye movement simply tracked his approach. She recognized the name from Sterling’s list. Vance was a senior emissary for the Archon Group.

"My mother’s departure was a necessary optimization," Victoria replied, her voice a low, flat whisper.

Vance offered a subtle, patronizing smile. "Indeed. But the empire requires stability. It requires purity. Our coalition is concerned that your current... familial attachments might distract you from the ruthless focus required to maintain the bloodline’s legacy."

The threat was heavily veiled, draped in corporate politeness, but the implication was clear. They were still targeting her son. The cinematic tension in the ballroom spiked, suffocating the space between them. Victoria did not flinch. Her jaw clenched with absolute, silent fury.
