Chapter 35 - The Complete Family

Six months later, the Carter backyard was filled with the smell of barbecue and the sound of children playing.
Ethan and Maya were chasing Michael's golden retriever across the grass. Michael was standing at the grill, expertly flipping burgers.
Daniel walked out onto the patio, carrying a tray of drinks. He set them down and walked over to a comfortable wicker chair where Eleanor was sitting, reading a book in the warm sun.
"Do you need anything?"
Daniel asked gently.
Eleanor looked up, her eyes bright and filled with a profound sense of peace.
"I have everything I could ever possibly need, Daniel."
Daniel smiled, looking out at his children, his wife, the man who raised him, and the woman who had sacrificed everything to save him.
"Yeah,"
