Chapter 26 - The Security Breach

That evening, the Carter house was locked down.

Monroe had arranged for an unmarked police cruiser to sit at the end of their street. Eleanor remained in the guest room, refusing to leave Daniel and his family exposed.

At midnight, the security alarm in the kitchen shattered the silence.

Daniel bolted out of bed, grabbing the heavy metal flashlight from his nightstand.

"Stay here with the twins,"

he ordered Olivia, his voice remarkably calm despite the racing of his heart.

He crept downstairs. The back door had been forced open. Standing in the center of the kitchen was a tall, heavily scarred man holding a suppressed pistol.

"Silas,"

Eleanor's voice rang out from the darkness of the hallway.

She stood there, unwavering, staring down the man who had tried to kill her three decades ago.
