Chapter 30 - The Ambush

Silas walked slowly toward them, his hands deep in his coat pockets.
"Just the two of you? How poetic."
"I have the journal, Silas,"
Daniel yelled over the sound of the rain, holding up the leather-bound book.
"Let my family go, and it's yours."
"Toss it,"
Silas commanded.
Daniel threw the book onto the wet pavement. Silas walked forward to retrieve it. As he bent down, Detective Monroe's voice echoed through a megaphone.

"State Police! Drop your weapons and put your hands on your head!"
Silas froze, realizing he had walked directly into a trap. But instead of surrendering, he pulled a pistol from his coat with lightning speed.
