Chapter 21 - The Confession

Olivia locked the front door of the gallery and pulled the blinds.
She poured Eleanor a glass of water, her hands shaking slightly.
"Victor told everyone you died before Daniel was born. He said Daniel's mother was a stranger."
"Victor is a master of rewriting history,"
Eleanor said, staring into her glass.
"Thirty-eight years ago, I discovered the truth about his criminal enterprise. When I threatened to expose him, he cut the brakes on my car."
"You survived,"
Olivia whispered.
"Barely,"
Eleanor continued.
"I woke up in a clinic under a false name. I was pregnant. I knew if Victor found out I was alive, he would take my child and mold him into a monster."
"So you gave him away?"
Olivia asked, her heart breaking at the thought.
"I gave him to Michael Carter,"
May you like
Eleanor said, her eyes filling with tears.
"Because I knew Michael was a good man. I traded my right to be a mother for Daniel's right to have a soul."
