Chapter 33 - The Hospital Vigil

The hospital waiting room was agonizingly familiar.

Daniel sat in the same hard plastic chair he had occupied five years ago when the twins were born. Olivia held his hand tightly. Michael sat across from them, quietly praying.

A surgeon finally pushed through the swinging double doors.

"Daniel Carter?"

"Yes,"

Daniel said, jumping to his feet.

"The bullet missed her vital organs,"

the surgeon said, offering a tired smile.

"She lost a lot of blood, but she is stabilized. She’s going to make it."

Daniel collapsed back into his chair, burying his face in his hands as a massive wave of relief washed over him. Olivia hugged him fiercely.
