Chapter 27 - The Alliance
Silas smiled, a terrifying, empty expression.
"Eleanor. I thought you died in a ditch."
"You always were sloppy,"
Eleanor replied coldly.
Daniel stepped into the light, blocking Silas's path to the stairs.
"The police are already on their way. You have sixty seconds before this house is surrounded."
"I only need ten,"
Silas said, raising the weapon.
"Give me the ledger, Daniel."
"I don't have it!"
Daniel shouted.
"Victor left it for you,"
Silas insisted.
"I know he did. He always loved his prodigal son."
The sound of police sirens wailed in the distance, growing rapidly closer. Silas cursed under his breath, lowering the weapon.

He slipped out the back door, vanishing into the night just as Monroe's cruiser screeched into the driveway.
