Daniel left the house, unable to breathe the same air as the ghost of his past.
He drove straight to Michael's house. The older man was sitting on the porch, fixing a broken wooden toy for Ethan.
"She's alive, Dad,"
Daniel said, collapsing onto the porch steps.
"My biological mother is sitting in my living room."
Michael didn't look shocked. He set the wooden toy down and placed a warm, calloused hand on Daniel's shoulder.
"I knew,"
Michael said quietly.
Daniel turned to him in pure shock.
"You knew?"
"She came to me in the dead of night, bleeding and terrified,"
