Chapter 24 - The Dying Embers

Derek slammed his hand against the bulletproof glass, his sudden rage echoing hollowly in the visitation room.
"You took everything from me!"
Derek hissed through the phone.
"I took nothing. You destroyed yourself,"
Ethan corrected him smoothly.
"I don't control Arthur Vance anymore,"
Derek suddenly admitted, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
"He took the last of the offshore accounts when I was indicted. He isn't buying those shares for me, Ethan. He is buying them for himself. He wants the empire your father promised him."
Ethan stared at the broken man in the orange jumpsuit. It wasn't a coordinated attack by his old enemy; it was a scavenger feeding on the remains of the old regime.
"Enjoy the rest of your life in this cage, Derek,"

Ethan said softly.
He hung up the phone and walked out of the prison, feeling the heavy, toxic atmosphere of the past completely wash away the moment he stepped into the fresh air.
