Chapter 18 - The Final Confrontation

At the gala, someone from the old guard tried to provoke them.
It was a former business associate of his father, a man named Sterling.
"Enjoying your new position, Ethan?"
Sterling sneered, blocking their path to the bar.
"I see you’re cleaning up your father’s messes."
Ethan stopped, his expression calm.
"I’m cleaning up the rot, Sterling. Which means I’m also making sure the people who helped him aren't part of the new landscape."
Sterling’s face turned purple.
"You won't last a year."
"I already have,"
Ethan reminded him.
"And I’m going to last many more. I suggest you stay out of my way."
Sterling backed down, his bravado gone.
"I’ve got this,"
Ethan turned to Olivia.
"I’m not afraid of them anymore,"

Olivia said, realizing it was true.
"I’m not afraid of anything."
