Chapter 14 - The Getaway

Ethan realized that they both needed to escape the city.
He planned a surprise trip to a remote cabin on the coast, a place where no board members, no reporters, and no memories of the fraud trial could follow them.
"Pack your bags,"
Ethan told Olivia on a Friday evening.
"We’re leaving tonight."
The cabin was beautiful, nestled between tall pines and the crashing ocean.
For the first time in their marriage, they turned off their phones.
They spent the days walking on the beach and the nights sitting by the fire, talking about everything except the company.
"I love this,"
Olivia said one evening, looking out at the sunset.
"No board meetings. No scandals."
"Just us,"
Ethan agreed, pulling her close.
"And Maya."
"And Maya,"
She laughed, looking at their daughter playing on the rug.
"I think we might actually make it, Ethan."

"We already did,"
He said, kissing her hand.
