Chapter 39 - The Counter-Move

|

The tension between us at the dinner table was magnetic, sharp enough to cut through glass.

I didn't feel afraid. In fact, I felt a familiar surge of adrenaline rushing through my veins. I wasn't the gullible wife who gave her paycheck away to a mother-in-law anymore. I was a lioness who had conquered an empire.

"If you think you used me to recover your father's stolen capital, Julian," I said softly, "you severely underestimated who you were dealing with."

Julian raised an eyebrow, genuinely intrigued. "Is that so?"

I pulled my tablet from my purse, tapped the screen three times, and slid it across the white tablecloth toward him.

On the screen was a live confirmation from the Zurich Cantonal Bank.

Forty-five minutes before I came to dinner, my automated corporate security system had flagged the Swiss account number Julian’s firm had audited. Recognizing the risk pattern, my system had immediately initiated an emergency legal freeze under my authority as Master Trustee.

Julian looked at the screen. His blue eyes widened slightly in genuine shock.

"The five million dollars in Zurich is locked, Julian," I whispered, leaning closer across the table. "Neither you, nor your firm, nor your father's estate can touch a single cent without my primary authorization."

Julian stared at the tablet, then looked up at me.

Slowly, a deep, genuine laugh escaped his lips—not of anger, but of supreme admiration.

"Brilliant," Julian murmured, shaking his head gently. "Checkmate before I even placed my knight."

"I don't play games, Julian," I said, picking up my clutch. "I restructure them."
