Chapter 25 - The Twelve Million Dollar Secret

I turned away from the monitor, looking back at Julian.
"What do you mean, the Cayman court will transfer control to me?" I asked. "I don't want Arthur’s money. I built my own firm. I don't need Mercer capital."
Julian let out a quiet, dignified laugh.
"Arthur knew you would say that," Julian said, pulling a secondary sealed white envelope from his inner jacket pocket. "That's precisely why he picked you. He knew Vivian and Daniel would bleed the family dry out of greed, while you would act with absolute integrity."
He handed me the sealed envelope. My name was written on the front in Arthur Mercer’s familiar, elegant cursive handwriting.
"The $2.4 million in the Cayman holding account is just the liquid interest, Emma," Julian revealed softly. "The holding account itself owns seventy percent of the shares in Mercer International Logistics—a parent company Arthur hid from Vivian during their marriage."
My eyes widened. "Mercer Logistics? The shipping company operating out of Miami?"
"The very same," Julian nodded. "Current valuation: twelve point five million dollars."
The room went completely silent except for the sound of the rain outside.
"Arthur left a final instruction in his codicil," Julian explained, leaning against the counter. "If Daniel proved himself to be corrupt and irresponsible, his share of Mercer Logistics would be completely stripped. The entire twelve million dollar entity would pass directly to you—to hold in trust or liquidate as you see fit."

I looked down at the letter in my hand.
I was no longer just the corporate consultant who had cleaned up their mess. I was holding the leash to the entire Mercer family legacy—and I had the power to wipe them out of history forever.
