Chapter 43 - A Quiet Celebration

Dinner at the Escalante country estate was exactly the peaceful refuge Elena desperately needed. The grand dining room was warmly lit by flickering candles, and the massive oak table was filled with incredible, comforting food. David poured a glass of expensive red wine for his daughter, his eyes shining with profound paternal pride.
"To Elena," David toasted, raising his crystal glass high. "For proving that true strength does not require compromising your moral integrity. You faced the absolute worst of the corporate underworld and emerged completely victorious."
"To Elena," Mariana echoed, her voice filled with deep, unwavering affection.
They clinked their heavy glasses together. The wine was rich and delicious, but the immense feeling of safety and unconditional love was even better.
"I couldn't have done it without the solid foundation you both built," Elena admitted humbly, slicing into her meal. "Victor Vance thought he could easily intimidate me because he assumed I was inexperienced. He didn't realize that I grew up watching the two smartest, bravest people in the world navigate this dangerous landscape."
Mariana smiled, a gentle, knowing look in her eyes. "The world will constantly test you, Elena. Greed is a highly persistent weed. Just because you pulled one massive root out doesn't mean another won't eventually try to grow in its place. You must remain permanently vigilant."

"I know," Elena nodded seriously. "But I also know that they fear us now. The public exposure of Vance sent a very clear, undeniable message to every corrupt board of directors on the globe. If they try to steal from the vulnerable, the Escalante Foundation will hunt them down and drag their secrets into the broad daylight."
For the first time in months, Elena felt truly, completely at peace with her massive responsibilities.
