Chapter 35 - Preparing for War

Leaving Julian in the custody of her private security team with strict orders to keep him isolated, Elena returned immediately to the towering Escalante headquarters. The city was still asleep, blanketed in the quiet darkness of the early morning hours, but a fierce, undeniable fire was burning brightly in Elena’s chest. The initial fear of failure that had plagued her since taking over the Foundation had completely evaporated, replaced by a cold, hardened resolve.
She immediately summoned her core executive team, waking Marcus Thorne and the head of cybersecurity from their beds. By 4:00 AM, they were all gathered in the executive boardroom, looking exhausted but deeply alarmed by the sudden, urgent summons.
"The immediate threat has been successfully neutralized," Elena announced, standing at the head of the long table. "The stolen funds have been fully recovered, and the internal mole has been identified and detained. But this was not an isolated incident. We are under a coordinated attack by the Vanguard Syndicate, operating on behalf of an unknown individual calling himself 'The Architect'."
Marcus gasped, wiping sleep from his eyes. "The Syndicate? They are incredibly dangerous, Elena. They destroy billion-dollar corporations for breakfast. If they are truly coming for us, our security protocols are nowhere near sufficient to withstand a sustained assault."
"Then we upgrade them immediately," Elena commanded, slapping her hand flat on the table. "I want a complete overhaul of our digital infrastructure. I want every single employee thoroughly vetted again. And more importantly, I want us to go on the offensive. We are not going to sit back and wait for them to launch another cowardly attack from the shadows."

"How do we fight an enemy we cannot see?" the cybersecurity chief asked.
"By shining a blinding light on them," Elena replied. "We find The Architect."
