Chapter 33 - The Breaking Dawn|

The intense aftermath of the massive shipyard raid was an absolute blur of violently flashing red and blue lights, crackling police radios, and endless, highly detailed official statements. Marcus stayed incredibly closely by my side the entire exhausting time as Special Agent Harris formally debriefed us inside the warm mobile command center.

"The highly complex spoofing program worked absolutely perfectly," Harris told us, standing near the massive digital monitors. "When Thorne's guy accurately entered their routing numbers, we instantly and flawlessly traced them to his massive master offshore accounts. We are actively seizing absolutely all of his global assets as we speak. The dangerous man is completely broke, and he’s going away for the rest of his natural life."

"And Daniel?" I asked quietly, wrapping a highly thick thermal blanket very tightly around my violently shivering shoulders.

Harris offered a highly grim, deeply satisfied smile. "With the absolutely damning audio recording you boldly got from the federal prison today, perfectly combined with Thorne's intercepted communications, Daniel Bennett has just been officially indicted on massive federal racketeering and extortion charges. He was desperately hoping for an early parole. Now, he's looking at an extra forty to fifty years minimum. He will absolutely die in a cell."

A highly profound, completely overwhelming sense of absolute relief washed heavily over me. It truly felt as though a massive, incredibly suffocating weight that I had been desperately carrying for five long years had finally been lifted completely from my chest. The terrifying monsters were completely gone. Absolutely all of them.

"I need to go home," I gently told Marcus, complete exhaustion finally seeping incredibly deeply into my bones. "I need to see my kids immediately."

When I finally walked slowly through the front door of our quiet house, the bright sun was just beginning to rise beautifully over the Chicago skyline, casting a highly warm, truly golden glow powerfully through the front windows. Sophie and Ethan were deeply asleep together on the living room couches, having anxiously waited up for me all night long.

I walked quietly over and very gently brushed the dark hair completely out of Sophie's peaceful face. She stirred lightly, opening her beautiful eyes, and sat up incredibly quickly when she finally saw me. Ethan woke up exactly a second later.

"Mom?" Ethan asked urgently, heavily rubbing his tired eyes. "Is it really over?"

I sat down deeply between them, violently pulling them both into an incredibly tight, deeply fierce embrace. Hot tears of absolute joy and pure relief streamed totally freely down my face.

"It's over," I promised them completely, my voice highly thick with immense emotion. "Thorne is completely gone. Daniel can never ever hurt us again. We are finally, truly safe."
