Chapter 31 - The Wire Transfer|

The brutal wind whipped violently off the dark lake, howling loudly through the highly rusted shipping containers as I walked steadily toward Elias Thorne. He stood perfectly illuminated by the harsh, blinding glare of his vehicles' headlights, his heavily armed guards rapidly forming a loose, incredibly menacing semi-circle directly behind him. Marcus walked very closely at my side, his right hand hovering dangerously near the inside of his jacket where his weapon sat.

"Rachel," Thorne greeted coldly, his warm breath pluming heavily in the freezing air. "I see you brought a chaperone. I explicitly and clearly asked you to come completely alone."

"My armed security detail stays," I said incredibly firmly, setting the heavy metal briefcase down heavily on the hood of a highly rusted, abandoned sedan between us. "We are only here to conduct a financial transaction, Mr. Thorne. Nothing more."

Thorne chuckled deeply, an incredibly icy sound that lacked any real humor. "Very well. Let's see the money. Once I personally verify the massive funds have successfully cleared my designated offshore accounts, you and your little family can go right back to your quiet, pathetic little lives."

I boldly opened the briefcase and quickly powered up the laptop. I smoothly inserted Caroline's decrypted USB drive. David, Marcus's brilliant tech expert, had seamlessly set up a flawless piece of spoofing software. It would look exactly like a highly secure offshore banking portal, and it would perfectly simulate a massive wire transfer, but it would actually instantly trap the receiving account's IP address and completely freeze the cartel network.

"The massive funds are currently sitting highly securely in twelve separate Swiss accounts," I explained calmly, turning the glowing laptop screen toward him. "I just crucially need you to accurately enter your specific routing numbers here, and I will instantly authorize the global release."

Thorne gestured casually to one of his men, a younger guy carrying a high-tech tablet. The man stepped quickly forward, aggressively plugging a cable from his tablet directly into the laptop, and began rapidly typing in the incredibly long destination account numbers.

My heart was beating so incredibly loudly I was deeply terrified Thorne could actually hear it over the howling wind. I glanced very briefly at the absolute darkest corners of the shipyard, fully knowing that dozens of elite FBI tactical agents were tightly holding their breath, waiting for the signal.

"Accounts entirely linked," Thorne's man confirmed sharply, stepping back quickly.

Thorne looked deeply at me, a highly predatory glint in his cold eye. "Authorize the massive transfer, Rachel. Right now."
