Chapter 30 - The Shipyard Rendezvous|

By exactly 7:00 PM, Olivia and little James were entirely safely secured in a highly fortified, luxury hotel suite downtown, heavily guarded by Marcus's best, most lethal men. I stopped by very briefly to check on them. Olivia looked incredibly pale and thoroughly exhausted, clutching her sleeping toddler tightly to her chest as if she would never let go. When she saw me enter, she broke down in fresh, heavy tears, apologizing repeatedly and profusely for the past.

"The painful past is entirely done, Olivia," I told her firmly, gently handing her a glass of water. "Daniel brutally used you just like he used me. The only real difference is, we successfully survived him. Keep little James completely safe tonight. Tomorrow, this nightmare will absolutely be over."

I left the secure hotel and headed straight to the completely abandoned shipyard on the South Side. The location was incredibly desolate, a massive graveyard of highly rusted shipping containers and crumbling concrete warehouses overlooking the incredibly dark, freezing waters of Lake Michigan.

When I pulled up precisely to the designated coordinates, Marcus was already there, perfectly disguised as my private driver. We sat in the heavily idling SUV, the heater blasting loudly, waiting anxiously in the heavy, oppressive silence.

"Special Agent Harris and the elite FBI SWAT team are securely in position," Marcus whispered very quietly, tapping a sophisticated earpiece completely hidden in his right ear. "They have highly precise eyes on the entire perimeter. David is directly linked into your laptop remotely. The exact second you cleverly initiate the fake transfer and Thorne takes physical possession of the device, Harris will instantly give the green light."

"And the recording of Daniel?" I asked nervously, heavily checking my deep coat pocket.

"Already successfully transmitted directly to the US Attorney's office," Marcus confirmed with a very grim, satisfied smile. "Daniel just brilliantly bought himself a consecutive life sentence for severe extortion and conspiracy. He's absolutely never getting out."

Suddenly, bright headlights swept aggressively across the highly cracked pavement. Three massive black SUVs rolled violently into the shipyard, moving in a tight tactical formation before completely boxing my car in. The heavy doors opened simultaneously, and half a dozen heavily armed men stepped aggressively out into the freezing wind.

Finally, the rear door of the center vehicle slowly opened. Elias Thorne stepped confidently out, casually buttoning his incredibly expensive overcoat, looking entirely unfazed by the desolate surroundings.

"Showtime," I whispered nervously, grabbing the heavy metal briefcase containing the laptop and the completely decrypted USB drive. I opened my car door and stepped bravely out into the biting cold to finally end the nightmare.
