Chapter 32 - Checkmate|

I placed my trembling hand heavily on the laptop's trackpad. I looked Elias Thorne absolutely dead in the eyes, refusing to blink.

"Before I hit send," I said, my voice cutting powerfully through the freezing cold wind, "I absolutely want to hear you say it out loud. I want your total guarantee that Daniel Bennett will not receive a single dime of this money, and that you will instantly call off the men you sent to violently threaten my daughter, Sophie, and Olivia's son, James."

Thorne rolled his dead eyes, clearly massively annoyed by my desperate stalling. "You have my absolute word, Rachel. Daniel Bennett is a completely useless idiot who will rightfully rot in prison, and my men will definitely not touch your children or the mistress's bastard. Now violently push the button."

I smiled. A deeply cold, incredibly fierce, entirely triumphant smile.

"Transfer officially initiated," I said, hitting the enter key extremely hard.

The glowing screen flashed bright green for a tiny fraction of a second before turning entirely blood red. A highly loud, incredibly piercing siren began blaring aggressively from the laptop speakers.

Thorne's arrogant expression morphed instantly from total arrogance to violent, panicked confusion. "What exactly is this? What the hell did you do?"

"FBI! NOBODY MOVE! DROP YOUR WEAPONS IMMEDIATELY!"

The massive, booming command thundered violently through the entire shipyard via a highly powerful megaphone. Suddenly, the complete darkness exploded aggressively with entirely blinding floodlights from absolutely every direction. The heavy doors of the empty shipping containers flew violently open, and dozens of heavily armored FBI SWAT agents poured aggressively out, their red laser sights painting countless dots across Thorne and his panicked armed guards.

"It's a trap!" Thorne screamed furiously, reaching violently inside his heavy coat for his weapon.

Marcus was significantly faster. He tackled me incredibly violently to the hard ground behind the heavily rusted sedan just as the very first terrifying shots rang out. The frantic gunfire was highly brief but absolutely deafening, echoing wildly across the freezing water. Thorne's men, instantly realizing they were entirely outgunned and completely surrounded, very quickly threw their expensive weapons to the cracked concrete, raising their empty hands high in total surrender.

I peeked cautiously over the hood of the car. Elias Thorne was firmly pinned aggressively to the freezing pavement by three large federal agents, his hands violently zip-tied behind his back, his incredibly expensive suit ruined entirely by the dirty gravel.

Special Agent Harris walked confidently into the absolute center of the chaos, smoothly holstering his weapon. He looked deeply down at Thorne. "Elias Thorne, you are absolutely under arrest for massive extortion, global money laundering, and conspiracy to commit murder. You have the right to remain entirely silent."
