Chapter 40 - The Unbreakable Horizon
That evening, after both children were safely and peacefully asleep in their rooms, Daniel and I walked out onto the wooden deck.
The stars shone brilliantly over the calm, dark surface of the lake.
I leaned against the railing, feeling a profound, unshakeable sense of victory settle deep into my bones.
The monsters who had haunted my childhood were locked in cages of their own making. The generational trauma had been completely, violently severed.
I had survived the absolute worst betrayal imaginable, and in its place, I had built an empire of light.
"Are you happy?"
Daniel asked softly, wrapping his arms securely around my waist from behind.
"I am completely, entirely free,"

And as we stood there, looking out at the endless, brilliant horizon stretching infinitely before us, I knew that the storm was permanently over, and our foundation would stand unbreakable for the rest of time.
