Chapter 22 - The Prosecutor's Wrath

I did not panic. The fragile, terrified girl who had been pushed to the floor at a wedding no longer existed.
I calmly picked up my phone and dialed Daniel’s private, encrypted office line.
"Daniel,"
I said the moment he answered.
"What's wrong?"
Daniel asked, his voice instantly dropping into a tense, hyper-vigilant register. He could always read the slightest shift in my tone.
"Aunt Beatrice just served us with a lawsuit for visitation rights,"
I explained smoothly.
"She is claiming that Clare is being unlawfully alienated from her extended family."
The silence on the other end of the line was absolute, heavy, and terrifyingly cold.
"I am canceling my afternoon meetings,"
May you like
Daniel stated, his voice a low, lethal whisper.
"I will be home in twenty minutes. Do not let Clare out of your sight. They are testing the perimeter, and I am going to completely annihilate them for it."
