Chapter 32 - The Sister's Visit

Our first Thanksgiving in the new house was a massive, joyous, and completely unburdened celebration.

Olivia and her husband drove up, bringing their bright, energetic young son. Monica and her family joined us as well.

The house was filled with the sounds of children laughing, the smell of roasting turkey, and the warm, golden glow of a family that had actively chosen each other.

I stood in the kitchen, watching Olivia help Clare frost a batch of cupcakes.

"I never thought we would actually get here,"

Olivia murmured to me later, as we stood on the deck watching the men play football on the lawn with the kids.

"Neither did I,"

I admitted honestly.

"But we broke the chain, Olivia. The poison stops with us. Our children will only ever know the light."
