Chapter 34 - The Contrast of Fear

The pregnancy was a deeply emotional journey.
I couldn't help but compare it to the terrifying, isolating experience of carrying Clare. Back then, I was constantly navigating the treacherous minefield of my parents' emotional abuse, walking on eggshells to avoid their rage.
This time, everything was different.
Daniel treated me with a reverence and care that was almost overwhelming. He attended every single ultrasound. He read books, he massaged my aching back, and he fiercely protected my peace.
"You are so tense,"
Daniel murmured one evening, rubbing my shoulders as I sat on the sofa.
"I keep waiting for something to go wrong,"
I admitted, the trauma of my previous premature labor briefly echoing in my mind.
"Nothing is going to go wrong,"

Daniel promised, his voice an unbreakable anchor.
"There is no one left to hurt you. You are entirely safe."
