Chapter 24 - The Legal Guillotine

Daniel walked through the front door like a contained hurricane.
He didn't take off his suit jacket. He walked straight to the kitchen island, took the legal documents from my hands, and read them with a cold, predatory focus.
"This is completely frivolous,"
Daniel noted, tossing the papers onto the marble counter.
"But it is designed to cause us psychological distress."
"Olivia called,"
I told him, stepping into his arms.
"My mother is secretly funding the lawsuit. She wired Beatrice fifty thousand dollars across state lines."
Daniel’s eyes widened slightly, before a dark, terrifyingly brilliant smile spread across his face.
"Across state lines?"
Daniel repeated, his mind already assembling the federal trap.
"My parents are legally barred from contacting us as a condition of their ongoing probation,"
May you like
Daniel murmured, his mind racing.
"By using Beatrice as a financial proxy to harass you, they are actively violating a federal no-contact order and committing interstate wire fraud to fund a malicious civil suit."
