Chapter 29 - The Second Arrest

While Aunt Beatrice faced the utter destruction of her reputation, my parents faced the absolute, final consequences of their arrogance.
By funding the lawsuit and organizing the harassment, they had blatantly violated the terms of their parole.
A thousand miles away, in the quiet, unassuming suburb where my parents had fled to hide their shame, three unmarked federal vehicles pulled into their driveway.
I received the call from Olivia later that afternoon.
"It’s on the local news,"
Olivia breathed out, a mixture of shock and sheer relief in her voice.
"They raided the house. They arrested both of them. They were led out in handcuffs in front of their entire new neighborhood."
"They thought they could still control us,"
I murmured, looking out my window at Clare playing safely in the backyard.
