Chapter 13 - The Defense Strategy

Over the next few days, as I slowly recovered and spent every available second sitting beside Clare’s incubator, the legal machinery moved with terrifying speed.
My parents had hired one of the most expensive, aggressive defense attorneys in the state.
He immediately attempted to secure bail and began leaking a heavily manufactured narrative to the press. They claimed that the entire incident was a massive, unfortunate misunderstanding. They painted me as a dramatic, emotionally unstable pregnant woman who had exaggerated a minor bump into a federal case for attention.
They insisted my father simply tripped into the chair.
But the evidence was insurmountable.
Daniel, working behind the scenes with the DA’s office, ensured that the full, unedited security footage was secured. The video clearly showed my father looking down, bracing himself, and delivering a targeted, violent kick to the chair.
More importantly, the prosecution secured the text messages my mother had sent during the chaos.
When an aunt had texted my mother asking if I needed an ambulance, my mother had replied:

“Do not call 911. She is just being dramatic as usual. Don't ruin Bridget's wedding by making a scene.”
It was irrefutable proof of intent, and proof that she actively tried to deny me emergency medical care while I was bleeding on the floor.
