Chapter 6 - The Mother's Tears

Eleanor stepped forward, her entire body trembling with a mixture of rage and terror. The diamond necklace around her throat seemed to mock her sudden loss of power.

"That is a lie! It has to be a lie!"

Eleanor shrieked, pointing a manicured finger at Beatriz.

"You are nothing but a pathetic, miserable woman that my son took pity on by bringing into this house! You are a fraud!"

Beatriz took a deep breath, feeling the soft, rhythmic breathing of her baby against her collarbone.

"Pity?"

She repeated the word, her tone laced with a profound, aching sadness.

"I endured the humiliations, the sleepless nights, the contempt, the screaming, and the crushing loneliness simply because I wanted my son to have a family. I wanted to believe that beneath your cruelty, there was a heart."

Tears continued to fall, silently tracking down her face, but her posture no longer wavered. She stood tall, an undisputed queen in a room full of peasants.

"But you were never my family. You used me, you exploited my supposed weakness, you tried to erase my past, and you foolishly thought that my silence was a sign of submission."
