Chapter 25 - The Final Confrontation

Beatriz’s SUV pulled up to the massive wrought-iron gates of her estate.
On the other side of the bars stood Eduardo. He looked pathetic. His once-tailored suits were replaced by wrinkled, cheap clothing. He was unshaven, his eyes bloodshot, and he looked desperate. When he saw Beatriz step out of the car, he rushed toward the iron bars, gripping them tightly.
"Beatriz! Thank God! You have to listen to me!"
He begged, his voice cracking with desperation.
Beatriz walked slowly toward the gate, stopping just out of his reach. She looked at him with an expression of profound, crushing indifference.
"You are trespassing, Eduardo. The court order specifically forbids you from being within five miles of this property, or my son."
She said, her voice perfectly steady.
"Please, I have nothing left!"
He cried, tears welling in his pathetic eyes.
"The banks took my apartment. My friends won't return my calls. I can't even afford a decent lawyer anymore. I just want to see Leo. He is my son too!"
Beatriz let out a dry, humorless laugh that cut through the afternoon air.
"Leo has no father. He has a sperm donor who tried to leave his mother penniless and broken on the floor. You made your choice the night you let your family try to take my child from me."
"I was stupid! I was weak!"
Eduardo pleaded, falling to his knees on the concrete driveway.
"I am begging you, Beatriz. Show some mercy. Give me a second chance."
"Mercy?"
Beatriz repeated, her eyes turning as cold as glaciers.
"You did not show me mercy when you locked me in that room. You did not show me mercy when you tried to steal my inheritance. The only reason you are crying now is because you lost. Security."

She turned slightly toward the heavily armed guard standing nearby.
"Call the police. Tell them a vagrant is violating a restraining order. Let him spend the weekend in a cell."
