Chapter 10 - The First Breath

The cool night air hit Beatriz’s face as she stepped out of the suffocating mansion and onto the grand driveway. A sleek, armored black Maybach was idling near the steps, its engine purring softly. One of the men in suits hurried forward to open the rear door for her.

As she slid into the plush leather seat, Dr. Almeida took the front passenger seat. The heavy doors closed, instantly shutting out the world. The silence inside the cabin was pure, unadulterated peace.

Beatriz looked down at Leo. The baby had fallen entirely asleep, his small chest rising and falling in a steady, calming rhythm. He was safe. They were finally safe.

In the brightly lit corridor of the moving car, Beatriz let out a long, shuddering exhale. She breathed as if she were truly breathing for the first time in years. The crushing weight that had sat on her chest since the day she married Rodrigo evaporated into the night air.

She had not left that mansion as an abandoned, broken woman. She had walked out as a fiercely protective mother, the rightful heiress to an empire, and the undisputed master of her own destiny.
