Chapter 28 - A Toast to the Future

Later in the evening, Beatriz retreated to a quieter balcony overlooking the illuminated city gardens, holding a glass of sparkling water.

She was joined by her lead corporate attorney, Marcus, a sharp, impeccably dressed man who had been her most trusted ally during the vicious divorce and hostile corporate takeover.

"You have them entirely wrapped around your finger, Beatriz,"

Marcus said, leaning against the stone balustrade with a satisfied smile.

"They are terrified of me, Marcus. And fear is a much more reliable currency than their fake affection,"

She replied, taking a sip from her glass.

"Eduardo's lawyer contacted me this morning,"

Marcus shifted the topic, his tone becoming strictly professional.

"He is officially dropping any remaining petitions for visitation or alimony. He is completely out of funds and facing jail time for violating the restraining order. It is over. He has surrendered."

Beatriz looked out at the glowing city lights. She felt no triumphant surge of adrenaline, only a deep, profound sense of closure. The long, exhausting war was finally, definitively finished.

"Make sure the final paperwork is sealed. I never want to hear his name in my presence again,"

She commanded quietly.
