Chapter 23 - The Boardroom Battlefield

The heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open.

Twelve men and women, the most powerful shareholders of the company, immediately stopped their hushed conversations and stood up from their leather chairs. Beatriz walked to the head of the long glass table and placed her tablet down.

"Please, have a seat,"

She commanded softly.

They sat down in unison. Beatriz did not bother with pleasantries. She pulled up the quarterly financial projections on the massive screen behind her, the graphs soaring upward in a beautiful display of profit and stability.

"As you can see, the restructuring plan we implemented six months ago has yielded a forty percent increase in our international logistics division,"

Beatriz stated, her eyes locking onto an older executive named Vance, who had been one of Eduardo’s most loyal cronies.

"However, Ms. Monteiro, liquidating the southern shipping ports seems incredibly aggressive,"

Vance protested weakly, adjusting his silk tie.

"We have held those assets for three generations."

Beatriz leaned forward, resting her hands flat on the glass table.

"We held onto them out of foolish sentimentality, Vance. They have been hemorrhaging money for five years. I do not run a charity for obsolete traditions. We are liquidating the ports, and reinvesting the capital into renewable energy infrastructure. The decision is final."

Vance swallowed hard, shrinking back into his chair.

"Of course. If you believe it is the right course of action."

"I do not merely believe it. I have mathematically proven it,"

She replied, her voice cold and absolute.

No one else dared to utter a word of dissent. They had learned the hard way that crossing Beatriz Monteiro was a career-ending move.
