Chapter 19 - The Final Verdict

The final gavel strike echoed in the family court, a sound of absolute finality. The judge looked down from the bench, adjusting his glasses.
"Based on the overwhelming evidence presented, and the voluntary relinquishment of rights by the respondent, full legal and physical custody of the minor, Leonardo Monteiro, is awarded to the petitioner, Beatriz Monteiro. The respondent is permanently barred from contact."
Beatriz stood up, smoothing the front of her jacket. She thanked the judge quietly.

As she walked out of the courtroom, she caught a glimpse of Rodrigo and Eleanor standing near the elevators. They were arguing bitterly, blaming each other for their total collapse. They were miserable, broke, and entirely alone.
