Chapter 22 - The Penthouse ConfrontationNew York City was a suffocating grid of concrete and ambition, and Odette Kingsley’s penthouse sat at the very apex of it, a monument to her unyielding vanity. Felix bypassed the doorman with a single freezing glare and rode the private elevator up to the seventy-second floor.

When the brass doors parted, he stepped into a sprawling living room decorated in sterile, blinding whites and cold marble. Odette was sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window, sipping a martini, looking out over the glittering Manhattan skyline.
"I wondered how long it would take Vance to inform you," Odette said without turning around. Her voice was raspy, laced with years of bitter isolation.
"You funded Celeste Arden’s appeal," Felix stated, stepping into the room, his presence dominating the massive space. "You spent ten million dollars to release a woman who tried to destroy this family and put your granddaughter in danger."
Odette finally turned, her lips curling into a vicious sneer. "My granddaughter? Lily is a pawn that waitress used to steal my son. You stripped me of my board seat, Felix. You banished me to this glass cage while you and your little chef played house in the Hamptons. I built the Kingsley Empire with my bare hands and my own blood!"
"You built nothing but resentment, Mother. And you are playing a very dangerous game by bringing Celeste back into the fold."
"Oh, Celeste is merely an instrument," a new voice echoed from the shadowed hallway.
Felix turned sharply. A tall, impeccably dressed man in a bespoke charcoal suit stepped into the light. He had sharp, predatory features and eyes that looked like polished obsidian.
"Allow me to introduce Julian Sterling," Odette said, her smile widening into something truly venomous. "CEO of Vanguard Holdings. And the man to whom I just sold all of my hidden preferred voting shares."
Felix’s mind raced. He had legally stripped Odette of her operational power years ago, but he knew she had kept a secret reserve of preferred stock—stock that could theoretically force a hostile board takeover if aligned with outside capital.
"Vanguard Holdings is a vulture fund," Felix said, his voice deadly calm. "You tear down legacy companies and sell the scraps. You think you can take Kingsley Hospitality?"
"I don't think, Mr. Kingsley. I know," Julian replied smoothly, adjusting his cuffs. "Odette and I have a shared vision. We are going to erase your ethical reforms, liquidate your assets, and utterly dismantle Sarah’s little culinary foundation. By Christmas, you won't even own your own name."
Felix looked at his mother, seeing nothing but a hollow shell consumed by vengeance.

"If you come after my wife or my daughter," Felix promised, the old, ruthless billionaire reawakening inside him, "I won't just take your shares. I will take everything."
