Chapter 15 - The Asset Freeze

Dawn broke over Manhattan, painting the sky in soft shades of pink and gold, completely oblivious to the absolute carnage unfolding in the corporate world.

In her luxury penthouse, Celeste Arden woke up with a pounding headache and a desperate need for confirmation. She reached for her burner phone, expecting a text confirming that the tragic "medical complication" in Room 4 had been successful.

The screen was completely blank. No messages. No calls.

A cold knot of dread formed in her stomach. She threw off the silk sheets and walked into her massive walk-in closet, deciding to head directly to the corporate office to gauge the situation.

As she was buttoning her designer blazer, her primary cell phone began to ring incessantly. It was her personal wealth manager.

"What is it, David?" Celeste snapped, annoyed by the early intrusion.

"Ms. Arden, I need you to remain calm," David said, his voice trembling with panic. "Something catastrophic is happening. Every single one of your corporate accounts has been frozen. Your personal credit cards are declining, and your primary investment portfolios have been entirely locked by a federal injunction."

"What are you talking about?!" Celeste shrieked, her perfectly manicured nails digging into the mahogany vanity. "Who authorized a freeze on my accounts?!"

"Felix Kingsley, ma'am," David replied nervously. "His legal team triggered a hostile liquidation clause in your subsidiary contracts at 4:00 a.m. They are aggressively dismantling your bakery empire as we speak. They claim you committed massive intellectual property theft against a woman named Sarah Marlowe."

Celeste dropped the phone, her hands shaking violently.

He knew. Felix knew everything, and Lily was still alive.

The sound of heavy, rhythmic pounding echoed through her penthouse. Someone was aggressively knocking on her solid oak front door.

Celeste walked cautiously out of her bedroom, her heart hammering against her ribs. She looked through the security peephole and gasped in absolute terror.

It wasn't Felix. It wasn't Odette.

It was two federal agents in dark windbreakers, and standing directly behind them was Felix’s head of corporate security, holding a thick stack of printed cyber-forensic reports tracing a very specific cryptocurrency transfer.

Her empire was officially over.
