Beneath the overwhelming fear, the isolation, and the daily terror of living with Grant, I kept one private, dangerous habit that he never discovered. I documented absolutely everything.
Grant believed that because he controlled the bank accounts and the Wi-Fi router, he controlled the flow of information. He didn't know that every time he left for the office, I went to work. I had purchased a burner phone with cash during a rare trip to the grocery store, hiding it inside the hollowed-out lining of an old winter coat in the attic.

Whenever he hurt me, I waited until he was asleep. Then, I would carefully photograph the bruises, the swollen lips, the finger marks around my throat, and the shattered plates on the floor. I saved copies of his threatening text messages and recorded his screaming fits using the hidden phone.
But my documentation went far beyond physical abuse. I also began pulling our financial records, meticulously backing up bank statements, tax returns, and investment portfolios to a highly encrypted cloud server. He thought I was just a naive woman who had forgotten how to function in the real world. He had completely forgotten that before he isolated me, I was a highly trained forensic accountant. I knew exactly how to look for inconsistencies, and I was quietly building a vault of evidence that would one day serve as his tomb.
