Chapter 37 - A Quiet Drink

A week later, the dust had finally settled. Julian came to my office after hours, holding two glasses and a bottle of expensive, aged Scotch. He poured a generous measure into each glass and handed one to me.

"I underestimated how deeply the rot went," Julian admitted, staring into his amber drink with a tired expression. "You saved the company, and you saved my legacy."

I took a sip. The burn was pleasant, grounding.

"I didn't do it for the company, Julian. I did it because predators rely on the silence of their prey. And I am finally done being silent."
