Chapter 16 - The Last Grasp

The utter humiliation and the sudden, catastrophic loss of his power pushed Grant over the edge. Logic vanished, replaced by the cornered, violent animal I knew so well. He didn't care about the CEO, the lawyer, or the security chief standing in his dining room. All he saw was the woman who had bested him.

With a guttural scream, Grant lunged across the space between us. He reached under the table, his fingers digging viciously into the bruised flesh of my arm, attempting to drag me toward him to assert his physical dominance one last time.

He didn't even get a second to pull.

Marcus Hill moved with terrifying speed. The massive security chief stepped forward, caught Grant’s wrist in a vise-like grip, and twisted it backward. Grant cried out in pain as Marcus forcefully yanked him away from me, pinning him against the wall by the collar of his expensive suit.

Julian walked slowly around the table until he was standing inches from Grant’s face. Julian's eyes were practically black with rage.

"Touch her again," Julian whispered, his voice vibrating with lethal intent, "and losing your job will be the absolute smallest consequence you face tonight."

Before Grant could respond, another heavy set of knocks echoed from the front door, followed by the ringing of the bell.
