Chapter 14 - Unmasking the Victim

"I found the first invoice six months ago," I said.
My voice cut through the tension in the room. Everyone turned to look at me, but I only looked at Grant. He stared at me in stunned silence.
"You left a printed tax document in the home office scanner," I continued, my voice steady and clear. "You thought I knew absolutely nothing about finance. You thought I was just a fragile, stupid woman who couldn't even balance a checkbook. You had completely forgotten that before you isolated me, before you forced me to quit my career, I worked as a senior forensic accountant in Mr. Cross’s first tech startup."
Grant's jaw dropped. The realization hit him like a physical blow.
"Quietly, while you were asleep, I traced the payments," I told him, relishing the look of absolute terror dawning in his eyes. "I bypassed your passwords, accessed your encrypted offshore folders, preserved every single digital record of your fraud, and sent everything to Julian."
Grant’s face twisted from shock into a dark, ugly rage. He slammed his hands on the table, standing up so violently his chair tipped backward. "You went through my private files?!" he roared.
