Chapter 29 - The Unfortunate Encounter
Desperation drove Rodrigo to make a colossal, unforgivable mistake.
He knew Villanueva Capital was expanding. He knew they were hiring aggressively. Blinded by panic and a lingering, pathetic belief that he could somehow use his past relationship to secure a lifeline, he walked into the towering glass lobby of Valentina's building.
He approached the massive, circular security desk.
"I need to speak with Valentina Villanueva,"
Rodrigo said to the imposing security guard.
"Do you have an appointment, sir?"
The guard asked, eyeing Rodrigo's rumpled suit with professional suspicion.
"No, but she knows me. Tell her it's Rodrigo. Rodrigo Cabrales."
Just as the guard picked up the phone, the private executive elevator dinged. The polished steel doors slid open, and Valentina stepped out into the lobby.
She looked absolutely magnificent. She was wearing a stunning, tailored white coat over a navy dress, radiating an aura of total, untouchable power. Julian Vargas walked beside her, carrying a sleek leather briefcase, discussing the final points of a contract.
Rodrigo’s heart stopped. She looked like a queen. She looked like the woman he had always been too weak to deserve.
