Chapter 16 - The Father-in-Law's Realization

Bernardo Cabrales, the father of the groom, was the only one who seemed to grasp the gravity of the situation. He was the one who quietly intercepted a passing waiter, asked for directions, and navigated the hallways until he reached the Versailles terrace.
He stepped out and saw Valentina standing by the stone railing. Her posture held the absolute, terrifying calmness of someone who had made an irreversible decision.
"Valentina," Bernardo said softly.
She slowly turned around, her expression unreadable.
"Don Bernardo."
"I know what my wife did is completely unforgivable," Bernardo said, his voice heavy with genuine weariness, the lines on his face suddenly appearing deeper in the afternoon light. "I will not ask you to stay. I just want... to tell you that I am so sorry. I am truly, deeply sorry."
