Chapter 25 - The New Director

Valentina’s transition into Villanueva Capital was seamless.

She did not demand respect based on her surname; she commanded it through sheer, undeniable competence. Within her first month as Director of Risk Assessment, she restructured three failing portfolios, saving the firm over forty million dollars in projected losses.

She sat at her sleek, minimalist desk, reviewing a massive digital spreadsheet. She wore a tailored charcoal-gray suit, her hair pulled back into a sharp, professional bun. She looked every inch the apex predator of the financial world.

A gentle knock on the glass door interrupted her focus.

"Come in,"

Valentina said without looking up.

A tall, sharply dressed man walked into the office. Julian Vargas, the firm’s leading corporate acquisitions attorney. He was brilliant, ruthless in the courtroom, and fiercely loyal to Augusto.

"The final liquidation reports for the Cabrales Group just crossed my desk, Ms. Villanueva,"

Julian said smoothly, placing a thick black folder on her desk.

"I thought you might want to review them personally."

Valentina paused, looking at the folder. She felt a brief, microscopic flutter in her chest, but it vanished instantly.

"Just summarize it for me, Julian,"

Valentina said, leaning back in her chair.

"The commercial assets have been absorbed. The residential properties were sold at auction yesterday. The remaining debts have entirely bankrupted the family personally. They have been evicted,"

Julian explained, his eyes watching her carefully for any sign of emotional distress.

"Efficient work, Julian. File it with the closed accounts,"

Valentina replied, her voice as cold and clear as ice.

She didn't need to read the details. The past was officially closed.
