Chapter 27 - The Mega-Deal

Six months into her tenure, Valentina faced her greatest professional challenge yet.
Villanueva Capital was preparing to finance a massive, multi-billion dollar merger in the telecommunications sector. It was the kind of deal that could cement the firm's dominance for the next fifty years.
Valentina stood at the head of the executive boardroom, surrounded by twenty senior partners, lawyers, and investment bankers.
"The target company's latest quarterly reports are artificially inflated,"
Valentina stated confidently, pointing a laser at the projected revenue graphs on the massive screen.
"They are hiding extensive infrastructural liabilities in subsidiary shell accounts. If we approve this loan without forcing a total restructuring of their executive board, we are exposing ourselves to a fifteen percent default risk within three years."
Julian Vargas, sitting halfway down the table, watched her with profound admiration.
"What is your recommendation, Valentina?"
Augusto asked from his seat at the end of the table, testing her in front of the board.
"We pull the funding offer,"
Valentina replied without a shred of hesitation.
"We let them panic for forty-eight hours. When their stock takes a hit on Friday, we return with a revised offer: twenty percent less capital, and we demand three seats on their board of directors. We don't just finance them; we control them."
A stunned, incredibly impressed silence fell over the room.
"Brilliant,"
Julian whispered, a sharp smile touching his lips.
Augusto nodded slowly, his eyes shining with absolute pride.
