Chapter 38 - The Midnight Raid

Through the thick, salty fog rolling off the harbor, twelve figures emerged. They moved with terrifying, synchronized precision, clad entirely in black tactical gear, carrying suppressed assault rifles and wearing advanced night-vision goggles. This was Obsidian’s elite enforcement squad.

They approached the heavy, rusted steel doors of the main warehouse. With a muffled, controlled explosive charge, they breached the locks. The doors swung open silently.

The mercenaries poured into the cavernous building, sweeping the area with their laser sights. They immediately spotted the blinking server tower sitting alone under the spotlight in the center of the room.

The squad leader gestured sharply, and four men advanced toward the server, while the others formed a tight defensive perimeter.

I watched from the shadows of the catwalk, my heart pounding a frantic rhythm against my ribs. Just plug it in, I prayed silently. Just connect the drive.

The squad leader approached the server. He pulled a specialized, heavy-duty decryption laptop from his tactical rig and connected a thick data cable directly into our decoy tower, intending to download the cryptocurrency keys manually.

"David, are they connected?" I whispered into my mic.

Miles away, safely secured in the basement of The Phoenix House, David’s ecstatic voice crackled through my earpiece.

"They took the bait, Clara! The physical connection just gave me a direct, unmitigated backdoor into their encrypted satellite network. I am inside Obsidian’s mainframe!"

"Execute the ghost protocol," I commanded.

"Executing now," David replied. "I am releasing the Trojan. I am systematically draining every single offshore account tied to the Obsidian Group. I am routing billions of dollars to international charity NGOs and completely erasing their financial ledgers. And I just forwarded their entire blackmail registry, including Julian Cross’s real-time GPS location, directly to the Director of the FBI."

The financial empire of the ghost syndicate was evaporating in real-time. But the mercenaries inside the warehouse were about to realize they had walked into a trap.
